Half of the port’s cranes have outlived their life expectancy.

JAXPORT is securing money it wants for a crane modernization challenge, as revealed by supplementary funding lists from the Senate and Home.

The Home is allocating $20 million to the challenge, whereas the Senate is chipping in $3 million extra, partially fulfilling requests from Sen. Clay Yarborough and Rep. Kimberly Daniels that totaled $45 million.

Per the Senate funding request, JAXPORT “continues to develop its worldwide and home container enterprise, (for) which environment friendly and dependable cranes to maneuver containers are wanted.

“The funds being requested will go in direction of the acquisition of 1 (1) further crane and modernization upgrades for as much as eight (8) current cranes that may improve their helpful life expectancy. Every crane modernization will embrace upgraded components and crucial repairs so as to add further years of helpful operation in a cheap approach.”

The Home funding request fleshes this out additional.

“JAXPORT maintains a fleet of 16 cranes, with 8 cranes nearing or previous their helpful life expectancy. The modernization upgrades will substitute previous components and drives with newer components, including as much as 10 further years of life to the cranes, roughly $2.5 mil per crane.”

Worries about mishandling of the funds can be misguided, per the Senate request, given JAXPORT “has an exemplary monitor file of using state funds effectively and successfully.”
