The Metropolis of Victoria is funding a brand new daytime warming centre at 926 and 930 Pandora Ave.
The brand new centre opened on Feb. 1 and shall be in operation till March 31.
Victoria says it’s funding the brand new warming centre in response to overcrowding at different services.
In mid-January, when a chilly snap swept most of B.C., excessive climate shelters have been at or over capacity across the city.
One homeless individual even instructed CHEK Information that they rode the bus to keep away from being caught out within the chilly.
“It makes you not need to be alive,” stated Li, a Canadian Forces veteran who grew to become homeless as a result of her navy profit paperwork fell via the cracks.
“The frostbite creeps up so slowly, you lose curiosity in every part. You don’t even need to transfer,” she stated on Jan. 15.

Town says the brand new warming centre is an try to answer the demand for shelters within the space.
The brand new warming centre is open from 8 a.m. to eight p.m. day by day, and is operated by native non-profit group SOLID.
Town says it was SOLID that first approached the municipality to open the warming centre in late 2023.
“SOLID will work collaboratively with metropolis bylaw officers, VicPD, the Victoria Fireplace Division and any metropolis workers to keep up a lawful, orderly, secure and clear website,” stated the town. “SOLID may also be answerable for offering custodial companies and provides.”
The municipality says it is going to value roughly $218,000 to function the warming centre for the subsequent two months.
