The British Columbia Coroners Service says it should maintain an inquest into the loss of life of a man who died in a hail of police gunfire after beginning a shootout with RCMP officers in Kamloops.

The service says the inquest will start on Might 6 on the Kamloops legislation courts to decide the information associated to the loss of life of 35-year-old Eugene Marcano, who was shot and killed by Mounties on Sept. 14, 2018.

A report from B.C.’s Impartial Investigations Workplace in 2019 says Marcano initiated a shootout with Kamloops RCMP officers, who had responded to a name a few truck and trailer parked in a distant location and a man who appeared to be intoxicated.

The report says Marcano turned agitated whereas interacting with the officers and retreated into the trailer earlier than opening fireplace on the Mounties with a shotgun.

It says officers returned fireplace with their service pistols and a rifle, hitting Marcano dozens of occasions.

The Impartial Investigations Officer report says the officers have been justified in returning fireplace, appearing in self-defence after making “routine inquiries” a few man apparently tenting on non-public land in considerably suspicious circumstances.
