The Impartial Investigations Workplace (IIO) of BC says an off-duty police officer was not at fault after a bicycle owner collided with their unmarked police car in Langford final month.
The crash occurred shortly earlier than 3 p.m. on March 19 within the 2500-block of Millstream Highway.
The IIO says the off-duty Mountie was heading south on the road when a bicycle owner got here down a steep driveway, crossed a sidewalk and a single lane of site visitors, and hit the facet of their police cruiser.
The bicycle owner fell off his bike within the crash and was injured. The off-duty officer known as an ambulance earlier than making an attempt to offer help, alongside a bystander, till paramedics arrived.
In March, the IIO advised CHEK Information that the person’s accidents had been serious enough to require an ambulance, but they were non-life-threatening.
On Friday, the IIO mentioned it had reviewed the crash website and decided that the driveway has “excessive rock outcroppings on each side,” which might have prevented each the bicycle owner and the driving force from seeing one another.
“The chief civilian director has reviewed the proof – together with an announcement from a civilian witness, and scene evaluation – and decided that there are not any affordable grounds to imagine that the officer dedicated an offence,” said the IIO on Friday.
“Based mostly on the proof, this incident was an unlucky accident.”
The IIO is an impartial civilian oversight company that evaluations all police-related incidents that contain severe hurt or demise, no matter if there have been stories of wrongdoing.
The IIO says its investigation into this crash is now over.
